Big Judo Looking for Top Guns

After the sucess of Pia our German guest instructor we thought we might see if we can find some more Judo tourists interested in working with us here in New Zealand.

We can't offer much we aren't a huge club and your competitive Judo won't get better but we can offer great coaching opportunities with kids and adults in a supportive and friendly environment.

We also have an active social calender and being part of the Big Judo team will provide you with a great range of contacts in New Zealand.

So if you are a:
  • Judo Black Belt;
  • Have at least reasonable English;
  • Are OK for us to do some background checks;
  • Like coaching Judo; and
  • Are keen to visit New Zealand.

Big Plans for Big Judo Term Two 2016

Well term Term Two has started with bang.

  • We have heaps of kids on the mat at Pukekohe with new kids coming through in the beginners class and we are even getting regular numbers with our Friday night adult's class! Big ups to Kyle and the boys from Pukekohe - Well done. Also to Tony for making the trip to Pukekohe to support the new class.
  • We had 22 big kids on the mat in Sandringham on Saturday - We have jsut moved a crop of beginners in the class
  • We had 21 adults on the mat on Saturday and were missing lots of regulars. The social atmosphere and emphasis of safe training appears to be working. We haven't had any serious injuries yet (touch wood) and the team are having a great time.

We have big plans this term:

  • We are building up a team of fighters for the Auckland International Open
  • We are introducing teh next step in our curriculum development
  • We will be running a grading later in the term
Thanks heaps supporters and friends

Goodbye Pia - Come Back Someday

Our fantastic German instructor Pia has gone back to Germany and we are all very sad to see her go. Pia was a very good addition to our pool of instructors and good fun. She was part of the team a became a friend for many of us and we will all miss her.

For any of you out there thinking of coming to NZ and doing Judo we are always keen to host a guest so please don't be shy in contacting us!

Big Judo Adults Keep Growing

A photo of last week's Tuesday night class.  It appears that our philosophy of 'social' adult Judo is working well.

With our adults we are running classes focussed on newbies and non-competitive players.  We do heaps of ground work and controlled stand up (i.e. instructors making sure that the students work within their actual limits not what the student thinks is their limit).

Taking this approach we have minimised injuries and are all enjoying our Judo.

Big Judo Pukekohe

The team is back on the mat at Pukekohe and looking forward to the competition next weekend.  We have had to put in a new class for beginners to keep up with demand for kids Judo classes.
